Abstract
This article examines the impacts of climate change on youth’s place attachment and highlights the pressing need to understand its implications for urban space utilization in the rapidly changing Arctic. The study employs an expanded place attachment theory, considers the influencing factor of climate change, and adopts a decolonization of science as well as a community-based participatory research approach to investigate Tasiilaq youth’s perspectives on their attachment to public spaces. The findings show that place attachment for these youth is shaped by the fulfillment of functional and emotional needs, encompassing social interaction, physical activity, and reflective purposes. The study concludes that climate change affects the place attachment of these youth in a multifaceted manner influenced by a complex interplay of factors. Results also reveal potentially positive and negative effects of climate change on place attachment, mediated by the youth’s functional and emotional needs and availability of alternative places.

Résumé
Cet article examine les impacts des changements climatiques sur l’attachement à leur communauté des jeunes, en soulignant le besoin pressant de comprendre leurs implications pour l’utilisation de l’espace urbain dans l’Arctique qui évolue rapidement. L’étude utilise une théorie élargie de l’attachement au lieu, en prenant en compte le facteur d’influence des changements climatiques, et adopte une approche de décolonisation de la science, ainsi qu’une approche de recherche participative basée sur la communauté pour étudier les perspectives des jeunes Tasiilaq sur leur attachement à l’espace public. Les résultats de la recherche soulignent que l’attachement local des jeunes est façonné par la satisfaction des besoins fonctionnels et émotionnels, qui englobe l’interaction sociale, l’activité physique et les objectifs de réflexion. L’étude conclut que les changements climatiques ont un impact sur l’attachement des jeunes à leur lieu de vie, mais de manière multiforme et sous l’influence d’une interaction complexe de facteurs. Les résultats de la recherche révèlent des effets potentiellement positifs et négatifs des changements climatiques sur l’attachement au lieu, qui sont médiatisés par les besoins fonctionnels et émotionnels des jeunes et la disponibilité de lieux alternatifs.
