Abstract
Our research examines the links between governance and the performance of nonprofit organizations in charge of mosques in Reunion Island by comparing them to Mintzberg’s missionary organizations, with the objective of measuring the degree of deliberation of the underlying managerial orientations. Based on semi-structured interviews, documentary analyzes and participant observations, we identify five levers: (1) a balanced economic model with a large emphasis on entrepreneurship; (2) the selection of leading members within the Gujarati community; (3) the systematic constitution of an absolute majority; (4) the salary of imams; (5) a project favoring dialogue with the authorities and active participation in city life.
