Le foisonnement, phénomène complexe – L'étude du foisonnement s'inscrit dans une orientation assez nouvelle en traductologie, à savoir les études de corpus. La présente recherche vise à vérifier les affirmations de certains auteurs voulant que tous les textes foisonnent quelles que soient les langues en présence et que ce foisonnement est attribuable uniquement au traducteur. Pour ce faire, un corpus de textes contenant plus de 61 000 mots a été analysé. Cet article traite donc de la définition des concepts, du coefficient de foisonnement pour des textes de physique, d'histoire et d'économie, de la proportion de foisonnement attribuable au libre choix du traducteur et de celle liée aux différences entre les codes linguistiques. Les résultats préliminaires de certaines analyses seront également présentés.
Abstract
Amplification: a Complex Phenomenon – Research on amplification lies within the scope of a fairly new trend in translatology, corpus-based studies. The aim of this study is to test assertions to the effect that the length of a text always increases in the translating process whatever the languages in use and that the increase can only be attributable to the translator. A corpus of texts containing more than 61,000 words was analyzed. Definitions of concepts, the amplification coefficient for texts in physics, history, and economy, and the relation between amplification produced by the translator's free choices and the amplification caused by differences among linguistic codes are discussed. Preliminary results of some of the analyses are also presented.
