Bâtir des livres Les rapports entre l'architecture et l'édition

Résumé

Cet article cherche à montrer comment les livres d'architecture ont été utilisés pour tenter de matérialiser des connaissances spécifiques. Nous nous intéresserons en particulier à deux années, 1851 et 1925, qui fonctionnent comme des coupes transversales permettant de déchiffrer les bâtiments et les livres dans un même récit. Pour ce faire, nous étudierons en particulier la texture de la page et du texte, à savoir l'utilisation de la conception typographique pour bâtir l'architecture de l'argument ; l'utilisation des pages pour associer texte et images ; les séquences de pages comme approches rythmiques et spatiales du contenu architectural du livre ; et la maîtrise de la taille pour valoriser les arguments architecturaux. Grâce à ces questions, nous verrons comment le savoir architectural a été manipulé pour que sa matérialité se retrouve au-delà des bâtiments.

Abstract

This article examines how architectural books have been used in an attempt to materialize specific forms of knowledge. We will focus on two different years, 1851 and 1925, both acting as cross sections that allow us to interpret buildings and books through the same narrative. To do so, we will examine the texture of both the page and the text, particularly the use of typographic design to structure an argument; the use of pages to associate text and images; the sequence of pages as a rhythmic and spatial approach to the architectural content of books; and how size can highlight architectural arguments. We will then be able to demonstrate how architectural knowledge has been shaped so that its materiality extends outside buildings.
