Plusieurs théories concernant le développement des comportements violents et antisociaux se centrent sur l’idée qu’il existe des groupes d’individus qui suivent des trajectoires distinctes et que des facteurs de risque spécifiques sont associés aux trajectoires qui débutent au cours de l’enfance. Ces théories sont pour la plupart formulées et testées auprès des hommes. Cette étude a pour objectif de modéliser le développement de comportements antisociaux chez les deux sexes et plus spécifiquement 1) de reconnaître les trajectoires développementales d’agression physique des garçons et des filles au cours de l’enfance et 2) d’examiner les variables familiales reliées à ces trajectoires. La modélisation permet d’établir quatre groupes d’enfants suivant des trajectoires développementales distinctes d’agression physique au cours de l’école primaire. Il y a presque trois fois plus de garçons que de filles sur les trajectoires les plus élevées. L’interaction entre le statut familial et la pauvreté est associée aux trajectoires qui dénotent un niveau élevé d’agression, et ce, en contrôlant le sexe. Les résultats suggèrent que les garçons et les filles qui proviennent d’une famille à la fois non intacte et pauvre sont particulièrement à risque de suivre des trajectoires élevées d’agression physique.
Summary
Many theories dealing with violent and anti-social behaviour focus on the idea that there are groups of individuals which follow distinct paths, and that specific risk factors are associated with these paths as they are set in motion during childhood. These theories are mainly designed for, and tested among the male population. The present study proposes a model for the development of anti-social behaviour in both genders, and more specifically: 1) it identifies the developmental paths of physical aggression among boys and girls during childhood, and 2) it examines family variables linked to these paths. The model identifies four categories of children, who follow distinct developmental paths of physical aggression during elementary school. There are almost three times as many boys as girls in the highest path. The interaction between family status and poverty is associated with paths that show a higher level of aggression, even when controlling for gender. Results suggest that boys and girls coming from poor and non-intact families are particularly at risk of following higher paths of physical aggression.

Varias teorías que conciernen el desarrollo de los comportamientos violentos y antisociales se centran en la idea de que existen grupos de individuos que siguen trayectorias distintas y que factores de riesgo específicos están asociados a las trayectorias que comienzan en el curso de la infancia. Estas teorías son por la mayor parte formuladas y puestas a prueba en los hombres. Este estudio tiene por objetivo modelizar el desarrollo de comportamientos antisociales entre los dos sexos y más específicamente (1) identificar las trayectorias comportamentales de agresión física de los jóvenes y de las jóvenes en el curso de la infancia y (2) examinar las variables familiares relacionadas a estas trayectorias. La modelizaciÛn permite identificar 4 grupos de jóvenes siguiendo trayectorias comportamentales distintas de agresión física en el curso de la escuela primaria. Hay casi tres veces más varones que mujeres en las trayectorias las más elevadas. La interacción entre el estatut familial y la pobreza está asociada a las trayectorias que indican un grado elevado de agresión y su relacion con el sexo. Los resultados sugieren que los varones y las jóvenes que provienen de una familia a la vez no completa y pobre están particularmente a riesgo de seguir trayectorias elevadas de agresión física.
