Abstract
In the recent past, topics like life satisfaction and other related concepts (well-being, quality of life, happiness) have been the object of unprecedented scientific interest. Based in part on the interest for positive psychology, this renewed interest calls for a structured reflection on the conceptual and relational dimensions of life satisfaction. This paper sheds some light on the actual psychological knowledge about life satisfaction in presenting the main phases of its evolution. Through a sequential analysis which explores the general, theoretical and empirical contexts, the paper presents a synthesis of the literature on the concept of life satisfaction. This synthesis offers a portrait of what was done and what needs to be done.
