Summary
Recent research identifies the link between depression and intimidation. Young victims of intimidation, as well as young intimidators, express symptoms of depression. The state of knowledge concerning the interaction of these two themes is still little developed, particularly regarding students at the end of the secondary level. This article presents a critical analysis of 12 studies relating to the link between intimidation and depression. The aspects analyzed include the characteristics of the samples, the measures used, the variables targeted, and the research design used. Overall, the results support the existence of a relation between intimidation and depression for populations of children and adolescents. However, aspects related to methodological issues limit the value of the results found in these studies.
