La photographie dans les périodiques québécois au cours des années 1980: la question de l'art et du politique

Résumé

Au cours des années 1980, le discours sur la pratique artistique de la photographie au Québec a été marqué par un courant important. En effet, ceux et celles qui écrivent alors sur le sujet ont été nombreux à s'intéresser à la dimension sociale de cette pratique. Pour rendre compte de ce courant, nous analysons les textes parus dans les périodiques québécois entre 1980 et 1989. Trois aspects retiennent tout particulièrement notre attention: 1) les principales caractéristiques de ce courant, 2) les divergences de vues que l'on y retrouve et 3) les enseignements qu'il est possible d'en tirer pour les années 1990.

Abstract

During the eighties, an important trend appeared in Quebec among the authors who wrote on the artistic practice of photography. In fact, many of them then showed an interest in their writings for the social dimension of this practice. So as to give a general view of this phenomenon, we have studied the articles published in Quebec's periodicals between 1980 and 1989. Three aspects have held our attention : 1) the main features of this trend; 2) the divergence of opinion among the authors; and 3) the lessons which can be drawn from this approach for the nineties.
