APPORTS DES CLOWNS À L’HÔPITAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF HOSPITAL CLOWN DOCTORS

Résumé

Cet article présente, d’après des études réalisées au Brésil et au Portugal, l’apport positif des Clowns Hospitaliers sur les enfants/adolescents hospitalisés et leurs familles, sur l’équipe soignante et les autres professionnels qu’ils côtoient ainsi qu’au niveau de la réputation de l’hôpital. En ce qui concerne les enfants, on note des améliorations psychologiques (bien-être, adaptation à l’expérience d’hospitalisation, sentiment de joie, diminution du stress…) et physiques grâce à l’intervention des Clowns qui leur permet de « s’évader » de l’hôpital et de s’amuser.

Abstract

This paper presents data from studies undertaken in a Brazilian and a Portuguese context that show the strong impact of hospital's clowns on hospitalized children, their families, medical staff and other professionals with whom they interact. Additional benefits are also described concerning the hospital's image. Regarding children, studies point out the psychological and physical benefits of the clowns' presence (e.g. well-being, adaptation to the hospitalization experience, a sense of joy, stress reduction...), allowing them to “escape” from the hospital and have fun.
