This study of Amelia Rosselli’s third major collection follows the chronological order of the poems’ composition, clarifying the poet’s intentions to embark on a path that privileges internal objectivity and communication. Careful attention is paid to the derivation from Petrarch and medieval Italian love poetry. The love theme is tied to a spiritual problematic evident in the book’s extensive use of sacred and Christological imagery. This finds the subject in often ambiguous situations of tension and trial that nevertheless express her goal of freedom in defense of the dignity of the person. This religious-philosophical vein is likened to the current of personalism that emerged in France and Europe in the years of Rosselli’s formation.

As a major mythological source and literary model, Ovid exerts a significant influence on Dante’s mythological narratives in the Commedia. Dante’s reworking of classical narratives exemplifies Ovid’s conception of mythological figures and more. Dante’s dissolution of any doubt about the dominant role of the Divinity and his underlining of the Christian faith are out of the question. However, unlike other Christian poets who focus on the moralization of Ovid’s tales, Dante is more “faithful” to the classical originals. Dante does not, for instance, exclusively read Ovid’s tales in a way that is analogous to those who produce the ordinary didactic moralizations of Ovidian myth in this period. Moreover, having freed himself from the limits of the pervasive moralizing use of Ovid, Dante better preserves the original beauty of Ovid’s writing and also, in a certain sense, its compassion for humans.

L’articolo esamina le circostanze della pubblicazione del primo romanzo di Alba de Céspedes, Io, suo padre. Romanzo sportivo, uscito nel 1935, e lo colloca nel contesto della letteratura dello sport degli anni ’30 e della produzione dell’editore Carabba. La valutazione di nuovi elementi permette di analizzare diversamente i pochi documenti a disposizione e di interpretare in modo nuovo sia il ruolo dell’editore nel commissionare il tema sportivo, sia la probabile destinazione cinematografica della storia. Questo studio vuole contribuire a una valutazione bilanciata della relazione tra il lavoro dell’autrice e la propaganda fascista.

This essay furnishes a critical interpretation of Federico De Roberto’s novel The Viceroys (1894) within the theoretical coordinates provided by Giorgio Agamben’s notions of “potentiality” and “impotentiality” (dynamis and adynamia, respectively, in Aristotle’s Metaphysics). The essay argues that two apparently marginal characters in the story—Chiara’s aborted fetus and Cavaliere Eugenio—embody a possibility that is open to a radical unpredictability, which is to say, to an “impotentiality” that contrasts both Benedetto Croce’s naturalistic reading of the novel and Vittorio Spinazzola’s materialist account of it. In fact, Chiara’s fetus and Eugenio are presented as metaphors of the power of imagination and literature embedded in life (in the bíos). Such a power is opposed to that of “race,” upon which critics usually flatten their interpretations of The Viceroys and, in particular, their readings of Consalvo’s concluding speech to his aunt Ferdinanda (“no, our race has not degenerated; it is the same as it ever was”).

Il presente contributo si propone di analizzare stilisticamente e tematicamente i primi due romanzi di Silone—Fontamara e Vino e pane—mediante una lettura comparata che ne evidenzi continuità e cesure, con l’intento di indagare le modalità narrative—stilemi anti-populistici, tono anti-idillico, linguaggio popolare “traslato”—attraverso cui vengono messe in dialogo la rappresentazione realistica del microcosmo contadino abruzzese e la trasfigurazione romanzesca della crisi ideologica, identitaria e morale sperimentata dallo stesso Silone nei primi anni Trenta. Nostro interesse sarà, poi, quello di evidenziare le forti istanze morali mediante cui l’impronta necessariamente regionalistica che abita le pagine di Silone si sposa ad una tensione universalizzante che pone sempre al centro l’immagine dell’uomo storicamente condannato all’oppressione.

The aim of the Bibliography of Italian Studies in Poland (BISP) project is to create a complete database of scientific publications written by scholars employed by Italian studies departments of Polish higher education institutions. This article presents a detailed description of the project and the results of a thorough bibliographic analysis of the publications included in BISP, which encompasses texts from three disciplines: linguistics, literary studies, and cultural and religious studies. The analyzed data concern the publications of Italian studies researchers who are currently active at Polish universities: 149 monographs, 113 edited volumes, 1,151 journal articles, and 1,415 chapters in collected monographs—a total of 2,828 publications, written by 145 authors. Our objective is to identify any discernible trends in terms of publishing research results by the analyzed group of researchers.
