Abstract
Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), the new name given to Specific Language Impairment (or dysphasia), affects both the development of children and the daily lives of their families. In particular, parents must cope with their child’s behavioral, emotional or social difficulties, all while being particularly involved in supporting the disorder. Difficulties and investment can be a burden for families. Thus, an intervention that would help parents understand the disorder and develop strategies to better adapt to the child’s profile could be relevant. The main purpose of this article is to justify the relevance of a psychoeducational approach with parents of children with DLD: it presents the repercussions on the child’s functioning and on the parent’s mental health, and the absence of psychoeducational intervention in this field. The second purpose is to present the original foundations and content of the program ‘‘Act to communicate with my child. Understand the Developmental Language Disorder’’ and the general assesment protocol. Finally, the authors will present the contributions of the program and its limitations.
