Abstract
[Root damage caused by insects]
Although roots account for a large proportion of total plant biomass, root-feeding insects per se and the impacts of those organisms on plant biology, physiology and ecology remain relatively unknown. The only exceptions are crop pests of economic importance or species involved in weed biological control. This brief review presents the different taxa comprising root feeding insects, their geographic distribution, their biology and their known impacts on plants.
