Abstract
The objective of this article is to understand the emergence of an international network of SMEs, through the analysis of the leader’s entrepreneurial competencies. In this perspective, the resource-based view and more particularly Barney and Clark’s (2007) work has been mobilized. The longitudinal and retrospective study of the emerging case of an international SME network reveals the evolution of an entrepreneur’s entrepreneurial competencies as this network evolves along several stages. Three key stages have been highlighted: identifying an opportunity for an international network driven by the mobilization of human and relational capital, assessing the opportunity, based on the animation of human and relational capital, and exploiting the opportunity, requiring the coordination of human and relational capital.
