Abstract
Research on identity construction has underscored the importance of narrative constructions provided by the organizational discourse. These narrative constructions enable managers to regain autonomy and a coping capacity. But these constructions remain fragile and unstable, emphasising the importance of available schemes for managers in their interaction with the environment. This research underscores how resources, defined as renewable capacities that help individuals interacting with the environment and structured in three main types – personal resources, job resources and relational resources – contribute to managers’ identity construction.
