Abstract
Repetitions are a very common textual-discursive feature in social interaction. They are a mark of orality in original and dubbed filmic dialogue that make utterances sound more natural and credible, close to spontaneous speech. In this study, based on film corpora, the number, the frequency of use per minute and the overall proportion of use of the different types of repetitions in a set of ten Spanish and ten Italian nationally produced films have been compared. The trends in the translation of the different types of repetitions in the respective dubbed versions of the films have also been analysed. Finally, on the basis of linguistic corpora of both languages, we have studied whether the differences found between original and dubbed films of the two cultures are corroborated in the social interaction of the two countries. The results obtained suggest that the translation of the different types of repetitions for both Spanish-Italian and Italian-Spanish dubbing was at least partially influenced by a process of hybridisation between the language of the source texts, the language of the domestic films and the spontaneous speech of the two target cultures.
