Abstract
The aim of this research is to validate the Motivation to Spell in French Ques - tionnaire (MSFQ). According to Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985, 2000), a person can endorse different types of motivation while performing an activity. In this study, we measured intrinsic motivation, identified regulation, and controlled regulation. Psychometric proprieties of this scale are tested within the confines of a study comprising 242 sixth-grade students. Results from confirmatory factor analysis support the three-factor structure of the scale. These results provide preliminary support for the reliability and the validity of the MSFQ among Francophone elementary school students.
