Biographical note
Frank Dobbins was lecturer at University of London Kings’ College, Reader at London Goldsmiths’ College, Professor at Université Francois Rabelais, Tours and is presently Associate Professor at Université de Montreal ; historical musicologist working mostly on Renaissance music, poetry and theatre; published Oxford Book of French Chansons (Oxford & New York, 1987), Music in Renaissance Lyons (Clarendon, 1992) several hundred articles in musical journals, newspapers and lexicons (including New Grove and MGG) plus critical editions of the chansons and airs of Guillaume Boni, Pierre de Villiers, Jacotin, Charles Tessier and Claudio Monteverdi (Scherzi Musicali). He is currently working on a documentary biography and critical study of Clement Janequin, a book on French Music and Poetry in the sixteenth century, a complete edition of Music of Clement Janequin, Arie and madrigals of Monteverdi in anthologies (for Opera omnia), chansons of Guillaume Costeley, Antoine Mornable and Harley MS5242 (Chansonnier of Francoise de Foix).
