Beyrouth : projections autour d’une ville et de son histoire Lecture d’une installation de Lamia Joreige

Résumé

Cet article porte sur l’installation de l’artiste libanaise Lamia Joreige, Beyrouth, autopsie d’une ville (2010). À partir de l’articulation établie par cette oeuvre entre la ville et son histoire par le biais des images, cette lecture se propose de montrer comment l’usage de la projection permet à l’artiste d’explorer la stratification temporelle propre à la ville de Beyrouth ainsi que d’attribuer une forme visuelle au jeu complexe de temporalités qui caractérise l’écriture de l’histoire.

Abstract

This article is about the multimedia installation by Lebanese artist Lamia Joreige, Beyrouth, autopsie d’une ville (2010). Taking her articulation of the connection between the city and its history through images as my starting point, this reading aims to demonstrate how the use of projection enables the artist to explore the temporal stratification of the city of Beirut and how it gives visual form to the complex play of temporalities, which characterizes the writing of history.
