Cette recherche porte sur les expériences de discrimination et de traitement différentiel des immigrants originaires de la France et de la République démocratique du Congo à Toronto et, en particulier, sur les différentes manières dont ces expériences peuvent avoir un impact sur la recherche d’un logement. L’étude révèle que les immigrants français et congolais appartenant à des groupes vulnérables, telles les minorités visibles, les familles monoparentales, les familles avec de jeunes enfants, sont exposés à la discrimination. Les immigrants français bénéficient d’un traitement préférentiel qui facilite leur recherche de logement en créant des opportunités en matière d’habitation. Ce favoritisme ne protège cependant pas contre toutes les formes de discrimination.
Abstract
This study focuses on experiences of discrimination and preferential treatment among immigrants from France and the Democratic Republic of the Congo living in Toronto. It looks at ways in which those experiences affect housing searches. The study reveals that vulnerable groups among French and Congolese immigrants, including visible minorities, single parent families, and families with small children, are exposed to discrimination. Preferential treatment benefits French immigrants by facilitating their housing searches through the creation of housing opportunities. Favouritism does not however protect from all forms of discrimination.

Note biographique
Maryse Lemoine est détentrice d’une maîtrise de l’Université York portant sur la trajectoire résidentielle des immigrants francophones à Toronto, dont cet article est inspiré. Elle possède aussi une maîtrise (bibliothéconomie) de l’Université McGill. Elle a, jusqu’à tout récemment, dirigé un projet de recherche sur l’intégration des immigrants sur le marché du travail torontois et travaille maintenant à l’Office des affaires francophones du gouvernement de l’Ontario.
