Résumé

Consacré au premier livre de Peter Handke à se présenter tel le fruit d’une écriture journalière et discontinue, cet article vise d’abord à en montrer la singularité par rapport au genre même du carnet et aux pratiques littéraires en général. Le Poids du monde constitue en effet un ouvrage où doit s’inventer une nouvelle façon de percevoir, d’écrire, voire de faire oeuvre, puisqu’il semble que ce soit dans un en deçà de la littérature que doive désormais s’élaborer la nouvelle écriture que revendique Handke. Dans cette perspective, j’entends ici retracer les linéaments d’un tel programme marqué par une défiance systématique vis-à-vis des formes et des réflexes littéraires institués, au sein de l’oeuvre surtout, et dégager les traits généraux de son exécution. Je serai, du même coup, conduit à envisager le rapport au lecteur qu’instaure le carnet-journal, puisqu’une nouvelle littérature implique nécessairement une transformation de l’expérience de lecture de celui qui la reçoit.

Abstract

Dedicated to Peter Handke’s first book to present itself as the result of daily and discontinuous writing, the primary goal of this paper is to show the work’s singularity in relation to the very genre of the notebook and literary practices in general. The weight of the world is indeed a work in which a new way of perceiving, writing and even working must be invented, since it seems that it is in a field below literature that the new writing claimed by Handke must now be developed. In this perspective, I intend here to retrace the lineaments of such a programme marked by a systematic mistrust of the forms and literary reflexes instituted, especially within the work, and to identify the general features of its execution. At the same time, I will be led to consider the relationship with the reader that the notebook-journal establishes, since a new literature necessarily implies a transformation of the reading experience of the one who receives it.
