Abstract
This article proposes a study of what might be termed “reparative discourse” in the work of Chantal Chawaf. With reference to Chawaf’s L’ombre (2004), it focuses in particular on how recuperation requires the seemingly antithetical processes of remembering loss and imagining death. It is only after enduring these latter processes that the suffering subject comes to understand the reparative potential of what Chawaf terms “une parole de la vie du corps”, a “corporeal discourse” that centres on bodies, physiological processes, emotions and sensations.
