Avec Bruce Lee au début des années 1970, le cinéma d’arts martiaux de Hong-Kong s’est imposé sur la scène internationale, y compris en Afrique, grâce aux salles de quartier, puis aux supports vidéo. Cet article analyse la fascination exercée par ces personnages qui associent une condition physique presque surnaturelle et une éthique qui met en avant la capacité de l’individu à se dépasser et à s’imposer face à un monde extérieur agressif. Les arts martiaux sont notamment associés à la pratique théâtrale dans Le Kung-fu de Dieudonné Niangouna. Cette appropriation du film d’action hongkongais véhicule une vision fantasmée de la Chine, que l’on retrouve également dans Cameroun Connection d’Alphonse Béni qui met en scène un sosie de Bruce Lee, Bruce Le, pour tenter de définir ce qu’aurait pu être un cinéma d’action camerounais.

Abstract
In the beginning of the 1970s, Bruce Lee’s action films gave a new visibility to Hong Kong’s martial arts film industry. In many African countries, martial arts films were first distributed in small local cinemas, then by home video technologies. This paper deals with how these extraordinary characters fascinate their audience, the martial arts hero combining quasi-supernatural physical abilities and an ethical approach that highlights the power of individuals faced with an aggressive environment. In his play Le Kung-Fu, Dieudonné Niangouna thus combines martial arts and his work as a comedian. This appropriation of Hong Kong’s action cinema conveys a fantasized vision of China which can also be found in Alphonse Béni’s film Cameroon Connection. This time, the African director introduces Bruce Le, a Bruce Lee lookalike, to try and define the possibilities for Cameroonian action cinema.
