Résumé

Cet entretien réalisé par Études internationales avec deux spécialistes de l’Ukraine montre que le rapport de la France au conflit ukrainien a évolué depuis l’annexion de la Crimée en 2014. Bien que refusant de reconnaître l’annexion de la Crimée, la diplomatie française a d’abord misé sur la médiation du conflit via le « format Normandie », et a mis du temps à prendre ses distances avec la Russie de Poutine. La guerre ouverte déclenchée en 2022 par la Russie a néanmoins poussé Emmanuel Macron à soutenir ouvertement l’Ukraine et à condamner de plus en plus fermement l’invasion russe. La classe politique française et les médias ne sont toutefois pas toujours au diapason d’une position résolument favorable à l’Ukraine et défavorable à la Russie.

Abstract

This interview realized by Études internationales with two experts of Ukraine shows that the position of France over the conflict in Ukraine has evolved since the annexation of Crimea in 2014. Although the French diplomacy has refused to acknowledge the annexation of Crimea, it has first relied on the mediation of the conflict through the “Normandy framework” and took some time to distance itself from Putin’s Russia. The all-out war declared by Russia in 2022 has prompted Emmanuel Macron to overtly support Ukraine and to firmly condemn the Russian invasion. However, the French political class and the media are not always wholly in tune with a resolute support to Ukraine and a clear condemnation of Russia.
