Résumé
Les iSchools sont un regroupement d’écoles s’intéressant à l’information, à la technologie et aux utilisateurs. Elles émergent des écoles de bibliothéconomie et de la tradition éducative en bibliothéconomie et sciences de l’information (BSI). Soixante-cinq écoles réparties dans le monde entier font présentement partie du mouvement des iSchools. En Amérique du Nord, les iSchools sont majoritairement en lien étroit avec l’American Library Association (ALA), en raison du processus d’agrément des programmes de maîtrise qui y sont toujours offerts. Même si l’ALA valide la formation des professionnels de l’information et que les iSchools s’intéressent à la formation des chercheurs qui étudient l’information comme phénomène, les deux perspectives peuvent être complémentaires.
Abstract
iSchools are a collection of schools interested in information, technology and users. They emerged from schools of library science and the library and information science tradition. Sixty-five schools world-wide are currently part of the iSchool movement. In North America, iSchools are primarily linked to the American Library Association (ALA), owing largely to the accreditation process of the graduate programmes offered. Even though ALA validates the education of information professionals and that iSchools are mainly interested in the education of researchers studying information as a phenomenon, both perspectives can be complimentary.
Resumen
Las iSchools son un conjunto de escuelas centradas en la información, la tecnología y los usuarios. Surgen a partir de las escuelas de Bibliotecología y de la tradición educativa en Bibliotecología y Ciencias de la Información (BCI). Actualmente, existen 65 escuelas distribuidas en todo el mundo, que forman parte del movimiento iSchools. En América del Norte, las iSchools se relacionan estrechamente con la American Library Association (ALA, Asociación de Bibliotecas de los Estados Unidos), gracias al proceso de certificación de los programas de maestría. Aun cuando la ALA valida la formación de profesionales de la información y las iSchools se centran en la formación de investigadores que estudian la información como fenómeno, ambas perspectivas pueden considerarse como complementarias.
