L’article propose une clarification conceptuelle des notions de confiance et de satisfaction envers la police à travers des données empiriques. Cet article émerge dans un contexte où ces deux types de perceptions sont utilisés de manière interchangeable bien qu’ils aient des implications différentes pour les relations police-communauté. On observe dans la littérature scientifique que la satisfaction fait référence à une évaluation postérieure des attentes alors que la confiance fait référence à une évaluation du risque relativement à des actions, des comportements ou des états d’être futurs. Les résultats corroborent effectivement une distinction, mais soulignent néanmoins une association entre ces deux types de perceptions. En somme, la satisfaction envers le travail des policiers peut motiver la confiance des citoyens dans la police. Dénouer la relation entre ces deux perceptions est nécessaire pour que les études dans ce champ de recherche soient outillées de manière à présenter un portrait juste des relations police-communauté.

Abstract
This article proposes a conceptual clarification of the notions of confidence and satisfaction with the police based on empirical data. It comes out of a context in which these two types of perceptions are commonly used interchangeably, despite having significantly different implications for police-community relations. Scientific literature suggests that satisfaction refers to a posterior evaluation of expectations, while confidence refers to an assessment of risk with regard to future action, behavior, and states of being. While our results support this distinction, they also highlight an association between these two types of perceptions : satisfaction with police work can lead to citizen confidence in the police. Untangling the relationship between these two perceptions is thus necessary if studies in this field of research are to have adequate tools to present a fair portrait of police-community relations.

Resumen
El artículo propone una clarificación conceptual de las nociones de confianza y de satisfacción hacia la policía a través de datos empíricos. Este artículo emerge en un contexto en el que estos dos tipos de percepciones son utilizadas de forma intercambiable, a pesar de tener implicaciones diferentes para las relaciones policía-comunidad. En la literatura científica, observamos que la satisfacción hace referencia a una evaluación posterior de las expectativas, mientras que la confianza hace referencia a una evaluación del riesgo frente a acciones, comportamientos o futuros estados del ser. Los resultados corroboran efectivamente una distinción, pero subrayan, sin embargo, una asociación entre estos dos tipos de percepciones. En suma, la satisfacción hacia el trabajo de los policías puede servir de prueba para motivar la confianza de los ciudadanos hacia la policía. Desenredar la relación entre estas dos percepciones es necesario para que los estudios en este campo de investigación sean equipados de forma a presentar un retrato justo de las relaciones policía-comunidad.
