Résumé

L’auteur lit l’ouvrage de Kantor à la lumière d’un projet autobiographique audacieux et « résolument moderne » qui mène l’artiste, au fil de ses spectacles, non pas à mettre en scène et à « représenter » sa vie, mais son contraire, son absence, sa mort. Quelle serait alors la véritable signification de la présence de Kantor scène toujours considérée comme sa marque de fabrique? La rupture d’un code théâtral, comme il disait lui-même, ou l’allusion a une réalité qu’on ne peut ni connaître ni représenter?

Abstract

This article is a reading of Kantor's work as an autobiographical, "resolutely modern" project in which the artist, through his productions, has represented on the stage not his life, but the opposite, his absence, his death. What is the real significance of Kantor's presence on the stage—considered to be his trademark? Is it, as he put it, the breaking of a theatrical code, or an attempt to allude to a reality that no one can know or represent?
