This article summarises the description of an experiment to produce and publish electronic books; this project was undertaken by Groupe interuniversitaire pour l'édition numérique. The numerous possibilities of the e-book in terms of the formats, the software and the reading media, were explored. The origin of new economy discourse in usDiscourse on the new economy is rooted in the shift from the original free, academic internet to the beginnings of today's mass, commercial Internet. Some computer specialists tried to maintain the founding tradition by proposing an alternative economic model : freeware. Others, by contrast, saw the internet as a medium like any other for advertising and doing business. Lastly, certain members of the computing intelligentsia saw a « new economy » in cyberspace. This article analyses the origins of these three discourses on the basis of texts from the magazine Wired.

Ten years have gone by since computerisation was first introduced on farms and the question may be asked : « what progress and what success has been achieved ? ». The market does not have enough ressources to enable all the farm software companies to provide permanent high-quality services. One reason for this would seem to be a sort of psychological block on the part of farmers and their tendency to look for « self service » solutions. An analysis of computer use by farmers reveals that the motivation involved arises under three headings - the family, the individual and the line of production. Trying to cater for the diversity of expectations of farmers is an enourmous difficulty for the professional networks and this also explains, in large mesure, the slowgrouth in computerisation of farms.

Le traitement et la diffusion du fonds Armand-Frappier (ou comment être opportuniste en huit leçons)
More informationThis article discusses the stage of processing that led to the communication of the Armand-Frappier Fonds. Deposited at the National Institute of Scientific Research (INRS, the scientific research institute of the University of Quebec), the fonds documents the career of a man who had a major influence on the evolution of the sciences in Quebec. The 25th anniversary of his death is being marked by this project of communicating his fonds, including a virtual exhibition and a conference. The INRS archives team were creative in obtaining financial and other resources. The project began with a new processing of the fonds, which gave rise to many questions related to transferring the description from one format to another and the attendant technological issues. The author lists eight lessons learned in the course of the work. He discusses them as he presents the actual work. They concern, among other things, the ability to sell an idea and to take advantage of opportunities, and the necessity of carefully choosing one's collaborators and partners. He also emphasizes certain aspects of management, such as the estimation of time required and the usefulness of having a Plan B. Finally, he encourages archivists to unpack the richness of our holdings and to be aware of the interest they arouse among young people. The article shows that with initiative and maximization of available programs, it is possible to succeed in realizing projects.
