Abstract
Drawing on social exchange and motivational reinforcement theory, this article examines how the effect of environmental assessment practices on individual pro-environmental initiatives depends on organization and supervisor support. The results indicate that the indirect effect of evaluation practices on pro-environmental initiatives via perceived organizational support is stronger when employees feel environmentally supported by their supervisor. On a managerial level, the exchange of resources promotes the evaluation function of efforts and strengthens individual motivation for pro-environmental initiatives. The theoretical contributions of this research are discussed from a culturalist perspective.
