L’Obomsawin ou l’impossible paternité

Résumé

Cet article interroge les représentations des figures paternelle et maternelle dans L'Obomsawin de Daniel Poliquin. Il montre comment, à partir d'une attention particulière à la répétition d'éléments signifiants qui structurent le parcours des personnages, l'accession à la paternité symbolique paraît impossible d'une génération à l'autre; ou plus précisément, il s'agit pour les personnages de déconstruire la paternité qu'ils avaient patiemment construite. Au-delà de la faute, il resterait à obtenir l'innocence.

Abstract

This article questions the representations of father and mother figures in Daniel Poliquin's L'Obomsawin. By paying particular attention to repetition of the signifying elements that provide the structure of the characters' trajectory, it shows how accession to symbolic fatherhood appears impossible from one generation to the next; more specifically, characters are called on to deconstruct the fatherhood that they had patiently constructed. Beyond transgression, what remains to be achieved is innocence.
