Abstract
This article proposes a Translation Quality Assessment (TQA) framework for a particular type of intralingual translation, namely the interregisterial transformation of specialized texts into ones suitable for a lay target readership, also known as diaphasic intralingual translation. Based on a functionalist linguistic and translation-theoretical approach, this framework is designed to assess and promote registerial adequacy in diaphasic intralingual target texts. The article associates this adequacy with maximum transparency of meaning in target texts and identifies five different principles as more specific quality criteria: (1) iconicity between meanings and wordings, (2) familiarity of lexis, (3) explicitness of meanings, (4) groundedness or concreteness, and (5) coherence. These five principles are in some cases subcategorized and in all cases defined in terms of linguistic manifestations. Examples are drawn from the lay-oriented genre known as Patient Information Leaflets, i.e., the small brochures included with medicinal products that provide information and instructions to the user. Most cases include both “positive” and “negative” examples, i.e., instances of both adherence and non-adherence to a given principle. Many of the “negative” examples are followed by suggestions for improvement.

Résumé
Cet article propose un cadre d’évaluation de la qualité de la traduction (AQT) pour un type particulier de traduction intralinguale, à savoir la transformation interregistérielle de textes spécialisés en textes adaptés à un lectorat profane, également connue sous le nom de traduction intralinguale diaphasique. Basé sur une approche linguistique fonctionnaliste et une théorie de la traduction fonctionnaliste, ce cadre est conçu pour évaluer et promouvoir l’adéquation de registre dans les textes cibles intralinguales diaphasiques. L’article associe cette adéquation à une transparence maximale du sens dans les textes cibles et identifie cinq principes différents comme critères de qualité plus spécifiques: 1) l’iconicité entre les significations et les formulations, 2) la familiarité du lexique, 3) l’explicitation des significations, 4) l’ancrage ou le caractère concret, et 5) la cohérence. Ces cinq principes sont dans certains cas sous-catégorisés et dans tous les cas définis en termes de manifestations linguistiques. Les exemples sont tirés du genre non spécialisé connu sous le nom de « Patient Information Leaflets », c’est-à-dire les petites brochures accompagnant les médicaments et fournissant des informations et des instructions à l’utilisateur. La plupart des cas comprennent à la fois des exemples « positifs » et « négatifs », c’est-à-dire des cas d’adhésion et de non-adhésion à un principe donné. De nombreux exemples « négatifs » sont suivis de suggestions d’amélioration.
