L'hystérique face aux symptômes de la traduction — À travers la notion d'hystérie, il s'agit de voir en quoi une pensée de la traduction et de la langue est fondatrice chez Freud. Deux traductions françaises du Journal d'Alice James mettent justement en scène le rapport de l'hystérique au langage. Ces deux textes montrent que la traduction sert toujours des desseins idéologiques inconscients, qu'elle est faite de lapsus révélateurs des traductrices et des maisons d'édition et qu'il est donc impossible de penser l'acte traduisant sans faire intervenir la notion d'inconscient.

Abstract

The Hysteric and the Symptoms of Translation — Through the notion of hysteria, the author examines in what way thought about translation and language is fundamental to Freud's writings. Two French translations of Alice James' Journal present precisely the relationship between the hysteric and language. The two texts show that translation always serves unconscious ideological designs, that it is evidence of the translators' and the publishing houses' revelatory lapses, and that it is, therefore, impossible to conceive the act of translating without considering the notion of the unconscious.
