Du roman graphique au film L’adaptation « parfaite » selon Igort

Résumé

Sorti en 2019, 5 est le numéro parfait est l’adaptation cinématographique du roman graphique homonyme, publié plusieurs années auparavant par Igort qui, par le tournage de ce film, débute en tant que réalisateur. L’idée de transposer sur grand écran l’histoire de Peppino Lo Cicero, tueur à gages de la camorra désormais à la retraite mais qui finit par revenir à son ancienne vie criminelle pour venger l’assassinat de son fils, a surgi rapidement chez son auteur, comme le suggèrent les idées de mise en scène et l’approche cinématographique présentes dans le roman graphique. Bien plus long a été en revanche l’aboutissement de ce projet, qui a pu se concrétiser seulement lorsque Igort a décidé de diriger lui-même le tournage : cet élément ajoute au travail d’adaptation une valeur spécifique qui mérite d’être soulignée et étudiée, notamment à l’appui du carnet de notes du film, dans lequel l’auteur-réalisateur décrit les coulisses du tournage. En lisant ce carnet, on découvre que pour Igort le cinéma représente une nouvelle frontière à explorer, un défi qu’il compte relever grâce aux acquis de son expérience d’auteur-dessinateur. Plus précisément, le passage du dessin au film a vocation à développer certains aspects de l’histoire, tout en gardant un lien très étroit entre l’oeuvre source et son adaptation, non seulement au niveau du contenu, mais aussi du style, dans un processus de (re)création transmédiatique à la fois fidèle et originale.

Abstract

Released in 2019, 5 is the perfect number is the film adaptation of the homonymous graphic novel, published several years earlier by Igort who, with the shooting of this film, makes his debut as a director. The idea of transposing the story of Peppino Lo Cicero, a retired camorra hitman who eventually returns to his former life of crime to avenge the murder of his son, to the big screen came quickly to the author, as suggested by the ideas of direction and the cinematic approach present in the graphic novel. However, it took much longer to complete the project, which only came to fruition when Igort decided to direct the filming himself: this element adds a specific value to the work of adaptation that deserves to be emphasized and studied, particularly in the light of the film's notebook, in which the author-director describes the behind-the-scenes shooting. Reading this notebook, we discover that for Igort, cinema represents a new frontier to explore, a challenge that he intends to take up thanks to his experience as an author-draughtsman. More precisely, the transition from drawing to film is intended to develop certain aspects of the story, while keeping a very close link between the source work and its adaptation, not only in terms of content, but also of style, in a process of transmedia (re)creation that is both faithful and original.
