Abstract
This article studies the representation of journalistic sociabilities in the nineteenth century, which evolves from a taxinomic and panoramic literature marked by the narrative and the study of customs to a literature of testimony based, rather, on memory and shared dialogue. Journalists, then, enter into a strange and narcissistic sociability that has to be experienced in order to tell one’s story. It is the industry of wit, in particular, that develops most, producing an inflation of the journalistic genre of the nouvelle à la main, a form of hand-written humorous anecdote that was the veritable ancestor of the modern funny story.
