Dans ce texte, l'auteure essaie de répondre à la question suivante: Quand la communauté thérapeutique pour toxicomanes devient-elle maltraitante? Pour ce faire, elle s'appuie sur son expérience d'intervenante de quatre ans à Portage. Elle explique dans un premier temps la philosophie de traitement de ce milieu et les raisons psychologiques majeures qui en font une approche efficace auprès de cette clientèle. Elle débouche ensuite sur les problèmes éthiques de cette approche directive, soit les attitudes et le pouvoir des intervenants. C'est dans cette aire de l'éthique que les limites de l'intervention se posent avec le plus d'acuité au point que si elles sont le moindrement dépassées, les intervenants peuvent devenir maltraitants.

SUMMARY

In this text, the author tries to answer the following question: When is the therapeutic community for drug addicts becoming the maltreating? To do so, she relies on her own experience as intermediate during 4 (four) years at "The Portage". She explains, in a first place, the philosophy of treatment in this environment and the major psychological reasons that make it an adequate approach for that clientele. Then she comments on the ethical problems of that directing approach, being the attitude and the power of the intermediates. It is in the ethical area that the limits of the intervention lay to the point that if they are slightly exceeded, the intermediates can become the maltreating.
