Abstract
This article aims to provide an overview of the scientific literature in the field of professional learning communities (PLC) as a promising way to improve school ecosystems. The synthesis includes the analysis of 109 articles selected from databases in three trends: favorable conditions and challenges of a PLC organization, the study of a PLC organization functioning and, the effects of a PLC organization. In conclusion, we discuss the emergence and diffusion of the concept, the “conceptual challenge” that runs through this scientific field and the perspectives offered by this literature review.
