Une interprétation sociologique est-elle possible ?

Résumé

De la lecture de trois articles de Fernand Dumont, nous dégageons ce qui serait trois conditions de possibilité de l'interprétation sociologique: le débat sur l'unité et la nature de la société, l'engendrement réciproque des faits et des valeurs, la transparence et le refus de l'expertise. Méthodologique, le propos s'appuie sur deux exemples : une typologie de Dumont, remarquable exemple d'imagination sociologique, et la sociologie de la santé. De l'ensemble, nous concluons qu'il n'y a pas de sociologie (ni d'interprétation) sans mémoire.

Abstract

Through a reading of three articles by Fernand Dumont, this article brings out three conditions for the possibility of sociological interpretation: the debate on the unity and nature of society, the reciprocal generating of facts and of values, transparency and the refusal of expertise. This analysis is methodological and draws on two examples: a typology of Dumont, a remarkable example of sociological imagination, and the sociology of health. This leads to the general conclusion that there is no sociology (nor interpretation) without memory.
