L'historiograhie du Nord du Québec

Résumé

Quelle vue d'ensemble se dégage des travaux concernant le Nord-du- Québec et qui présentent un intérêt pour l'historiographie? Dans le but d'établir un lien entre l'histoire de cette région nordique et celle du sud du Québec, une analyse des principaux travaux consacrés aux fronts pionniers de la colonisation euroquébécoise est d'abord proposée pour constater que ceux-ci se limitent généralement aux franges de l'oekoumène agricole. Plus au nord, les travaux à caractère historique ont surtout été le fait d'anthropologues, de géographes et de sociologues. Les quelques historiens qui se sont intéressés au Nord-du-Québec ont surtout concentré leurs recherches sur des questions reliées à la traite des fourrures. L'historiographie du Nord apparaît donc distincte et peu intégrée à celle du Sud, et elle dépend largement de disciplines autres que l'histoire.

Abstract

What overall view can be drawn from documents on Northern Quebec that are of historiographical interest? With the aim of establishing a link between that northern region and Southern Quebec, an analysis of the main documents devoted to the pioneering frontiers of Euro-Quebecois colonization is first undertaken, and leads to the observation that these documents are generally limited to the fringes of the agricultural area. Further north, works of a historical nature have mainly been produced by anthropologists, geographers and sociologists. The few historians who have taken an interest in northern Quebec have mostly concentrated their research on matters related to the fur trade. The historiography of the North is thus found to be separate from and largely disconnected with that of the south, and is largely dependent on disciplines other than history.
