Les caractéristiques des exportations manufacturières, 1972-1979

Résumé

L'analyse des exportations manufacturières du Québec pour la période 1972-1979 montre que le résultat des régressions classe les industries en deux catégories. Il y a celles qui sont protégées par les droits de douane canadiens: plus elles vendent au reste du pays, moins elles exportent à l'étranger. Puis viennent celles qui ont des dépenses élevées en recherche développement ou qui utilisent abondamment les ressources naturelles. Elles sont peu protégées au Canada, mais sont sensibles à la protection aux États-Unis. En somme, les exportations internationales du Québec ne constituaient pas à l'époque un prolongement des ventes interprovinciales.

Abstract

The analysis of Quebec exports of manufactured goods for the period 1972-1979 shows that the result of regressions classifies the industries into two categories. There are those which are protected by Canadian import duties: the more they sell in the rest of the country, the less they export abroad. Next are those with high research and development expenditures or which make abundant use of natural resources. They have little protection in Canada, but are sensitive to protection in the United States. In short, Quebec's international exports during the period did not constitute an extension of its interprovincial sales.
