Abstract
Psychological distress is a common phenomenon among university students. A systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted to establish the proportion of Canadian students reporting psychological distress and summarize the literature on factors associated with psychological distress. Databases MedLine, ProQuest, and PsycNet were searched for relevant papers in French or English between 1980 and 2014. Factors positively associated with psychological distress included being female and reporting perfectionist traits. Social support was associated with lower levels of psychological distress. The identification of these factors associated with psychological distress could help identify at-risk students on campus.
