Ce texte propose une esquisse du développement des connaissances relatives aux rapports sociaux de sexe dans le domaine du sport, et ce, au cours des trois dernières décennies. La décennie 70 marque la naissance des études proprement féministes du sport. La décennie 80 montre un raffinement et une diversification dans la conceptualisation des relations de genre en sport alors qu’apparaissent les études s’inspirant du féminisme libéral, du féminisme radical et celui s’inspirant des Cultural studies. La décennie 90 présente une sorte d’apogée avec le féminisme d’inspiration foucaldienne et les études féministes de la masculinité. Enfin, l’émergence de l’approche postmoderne et de la théorie Queer amène une déconstruction de la conception binaire du genre, met au jour la fluidité et les interactions des identités de sexe, de genre et d’orientation sexuelle.

Summary

This paper aims at sketching the major trends relating to the knowledge production in gender relations in the sport arena. We limit this sketch to the last three decades. The 70ies signalled the emergence of explicitly feminist studies on sport. The 80ies showed a sophistication and a diversification in the conceptualisation of gender relations in sport with the growth of studies drawing from the liberal feminism, the radical feminism and the Cultural studies tradition. In the 90ies, we assess the strong development of a perspective informed by Foucault’s theory as well as the burgeoning of studies referring to a feminist-masculinist approach. At the turning of the century, we observe the emergence of the postmodern and Queer perspectives which propose a deconstruction of the binary conception of gender, and highlight the fluidity and the multiple articulation of the sexual, gender and sexual orientation identities.
