Résumé
Grâce à plusieurs recherches ethnohistoriques, l’évangélisation de la Baie d’Hudson a été bien documentée, mais celle de l’Ungava et des régions limitrophes qui s’étendent jusqu’au Labrador reste méconnue. À partir des journaux personnels, des rapports et de la correspondance du révérend Stewart et de quelques lettres du révérend E. Hester qui vient le rejoindre en 1911, – la plupart de ces documents provenant des tribunes du Great Britain Messenger –, cet article décrit la christianisation de cette région. Le rôle des chamanes et celui des catéchistes est examiné pendant les vingt-cinq premières années de la mission du révérend Stewart (1899-1918).

Abstract
The evangelization of Hudson Bay has been well documented through several ethnohistorical sources, but that of Ungava and of neighboring areas stretching as far as Labrador remains unknown. Drawing on Reverend Stewart’s diaries, reports and correspondence and a few letters from Reverend E. Hester who joined him in 1911 – most of these documents were published in the Great Britain Messenger – this paper describes the Christianization of this region. The role of shamans and catechists is examined during the first twenty-five years of Reverend Stewart’s mission (1899-1918).

Resumen
Varios estudios etnohistóricos han documentado la evangelización de la Bahía de Hudson, pero la de Ungava y de las zonas adyacentes que se extienden hasta Labrador sigue siendo desconocida. Este artículo describe la cristianización de esta región, utilizando diarios de vida, informes y correspondencia del reverendo Stewart y algunas cartas del reverendo E. Hester que se unió a él en 1911, documentos que en su mayoría fueron publicados en el Great Britain Messenger. Se examina el papel de los chamanes y catequistas durante los primeros veinticinco años de la misión del reverendo Stewart (1899-1918).
