Résumé

Le Lieu historique national du Canada du Fort-Témiscamingue-Obadjiwan (LHNDCDFT-O) fut le théâtre d’échanges économiques entre les Algonquins qui occupaient les rives du lac Témiscamingue et les commerçants français, anglais et écossais qui ont tenu comptoir à cet endroit. Aux premiers jours des fouilles, il est apparu que la découverte d’occupations antérieures à la période historique s’ajoutait à ce qui était déjà documenté. Cet article présente l’analyse de 5 600 témoins céramiques, lithiques et écofactuels antérieurs à l’installation des premiers traiteurs français sur le site. Ces vestiges ont été abandonnés par les populations algonquiennes qui ont occupé « Obadjiwan » de façon répétée mais épisodique depuis 6 000 ans.

Abstract

Fort -Témiscamingue-Obadjiwan National Historic Site of Canada (FTONHSC) was the scene of trade exchanges between Algonquins occupying the shores of Lake Témiscamingue and French, English and Scottish merchants operating trading posts in that area. On the first days of the excavations evidence of occupations prior to the Historic period began to appear, thus supplementing what had already been documented. This article presents the study of 5,600 ceramic, lithic and ecofactual items dating before to the settlement of the first French merchants at the site. Those objects were abandoned by the Algonquian populations who have occupied Obadjiwan iteratively but episodically for 6,000 years.
