Résumé
Le dossier Machines et imaginaires musicaux (1900–1950) / Machines and the Musical Imagination (1900–1950) conçoit une réflexion autour de trois axes sur les rapports entre la musique et les machines au début du XXe siècle : 1) la spécificité de cette époque dans l’histoire de la représentation des machines en musique; 2) les topoï de cette transposition; 3) la complexité des interactions entre machines, musique et société.

Abstract
The collection of articles Machines and the Musical Imagination (1900–1950)/Machines et imaginaires musicaux (1900–1950) aims to expand understanding of the relationship between music and machines at the beginning of the twentieth century by focussing on three primary themes, namely: a) the specificity of this period in terms of the history of the representation of machines in music; b) the topoï around which the relationships between music and machines were articulated, and; c) the rich cultural relationship between machines, music, and society.

Notes biographiques
Federico Lazzaro, professeur ordinaire de musicologie à l’Université de Fribourg, est spécialisé en histoire culturelle de la musique en France durant la Troisième République (1870–1940). Son livre Écoles de Paris en musique (1920–1950) : Identités, nationalisme, cosmopolitisme (Paris, Vrin, 2018) lui a valu en 2019 le Prix H. Robert Cohen/RIPM de l’American Musicological Society et le Prix chercheur étoile Paul-Gérin-Lajoie du Fonds de recherche du Québec. Il a codirigé avec Steven Huebner Migration artistique et identité à Paris, 1900‒1950/Artistic Migration and Identity in Paris, 1900‒1950 (New York, Peter Lang, 2020) et avec Michel Duchesneau Musique, disque et radio en pays francophones (1880‒1950) (Paris, Vrin, à paraître). Membre collaborateur de l’équipe « Musique en France aux XIXe et XXe siècles : discours et idéologies », il a coordonné les projets de recherche et d’édition du site https://pressemusicale.oicrm.org ainsi que la Nouvelle Histoire de la musique en France (1870-1950).
Christopher Moore is Associate Professor of Musicology at the University of Ottawa where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in both English and French. His research specializes in music in France during the Third Republic. He is the co-editor (with Barbara Kelly and Philip Purvis respectively) of two books both published in 2018: Music Criticism in France 1918–1939: Authority, Advocacy, Legacy and Music & Camp. Forthcoming writings concern the responses of French critics to interwar technology, critical reactions to interwar French chanson, the expression of gender and sexuality in twentieth-century French opera, and the posthumous reputation of Gabriel Fauré, among others.
