Note biographique
Le MachineSexActionGroup a été formé par Istvan Kantor dans la deuxième moitié des années quatre-vingt-dix à Toronto. Le MSAG explorait le prolongement du corps par la technologie. Le thème principal des performances du groupe était le paysage hypercinétique de la société technologique d’aujourd’hui, régi par le système de machines d’information. Le groupe est né d’un projet à long terme que Kantor avait lancé au début des années quatre-vingt-dix, présentant des performances robotiques interactives, axées sur des machines de technologies de l’information en rapport avec le contrôle et la communication. Le travail du MSAG illustrait que la sexualité et la technologie étaient le centre autour duquel gravitait non seulement la vie sociale, mais la vie intérieure d’une personne. Le MSAG a existé pendant environ une décennie et, pendant ces dix années productives, il a créé une grande quantité de performances, de machines, d’installations interactives et de vidéos. Le groupe a pu compter sur la participation de deux douzaines de performeurs et performeures, dont Louise Bak, Sasha Braun, Danielle Baker, Alain Bloor, Jubal Brown, Marlee Cargill, Jo-Anna Davidson, Jada d’Aversa, Shannon Echlin, Dorianne Emmerton, Jane Haddad, Leif Harmsen, Eszter Jagica, Dariusz Karnicki, Lewis Kaye, Kira, L[ar]YNX, Miklos Legrady, Louise Liliefeldt, Chloe Lum, Jeff Mann, Coman Poon, Tanya Rigley, Conan Romanyk, Boryana Rossa, Zoe Stonyk, Art Szombathy et Darrah Teitel.
