Comment parler du catholicisme dans l’espace public? La parole du croyant et du théologien est-elle légitime pour traiter du catholicisme dans l’espace public? Pour répondre à ces questions d’un point de vue critique et interne au catholicisme, la nature du discours théologique sera d’abord esquissée rapidement. La perspective de Jacques Grand’Maison sur le catholicisme québécois, lors de la publication du rapport de la commission Dumont (1972), servira de fil conducteur pour une investigation sur la prise de parole croyante à partir de ses conditions de possibilité (en aval) et de son histoire récente, ainsi qu’en fonction des contenus de son discours (en amont).

Abstract

How does one speak of Catholicism in the public space? Is the speech of the believer and of the theologian legitimate to treat Catholicism in that sphere? To answer these questions from a point of view both internal to and critical of Catholicism, the nature of the theological discourse will first be briefly sketched. The perspective of Jacques de Grand'Maison on Québécois Catholicism at the time of the Dumont Commission Report's publication (1972), will serve as the unifying thread of an investigation of the believer's public speech.
