Résumé

L’apparition et le développement des études canadiennes-françaises et québécoises en Inde ont été quelque peu problématiques. En tant que pays du Commonwealth, l’Inde entretient depuis longtemps un rapport privilégié avec le Canada anglais. C’est pourquoi les études canadiennes en Inde sont longtemps restées la chasse gardée des chercheurs anglophones. Cette étude retracera d’abord les débuts et la situation actuelle des études canadiennes-françaises et québécoises au pays et tentera d’identifier les difficultés auxquelles elles doivent faire face. Nous offrirons ensuite quelques propositions pour contourner ces difficultés afin de favoriser l’épanouissement des études canadiennes-françaises et québécoises en Inde. Le rôle primordial dévolu aux départements universitaires de français, entre autres, sera souligné.

Abstract

The entry and growth of Quebec and French Canadian studies in India is understandably problematic. India is a Commonwealth country and has always recognized Canada, from coast to coast, as another Commonwealth (English speaking) country. Consequently, Canadian Studies would always mean studies carried out in English and of course hearing on English Canada. Further, the French language is, other things being equal, alien to this country and to the vast majority of Indian canadianists. This article will attempt to show how French Canadian studies began and to describe its present situation. The various difficulties it has to face will also be highlighted in the light of which appropriate suggestions will be made to enhance its growth among which the crucial role of the French departments.
