Résumé
L’enfant qui présente une pathologie limite en émergence a vécu, dans ses relations avec ses principales figures de soins, des expériences qui ont précarisé le développement d’un mode de fonctionnement ancré au sein du jeu, l’espace intermédiaire dans lequel les réalités intérieure et extérieure peuvent se rencontrer tout en conservant leur nature distincte. Cet article propose une réflexion théorique et clinique afin d’éclairer les implications de cette précarisation pour la capacité de l’enfant à jouer. Après avoir élaboré le rôle des soins primaires dans l’avènement du jeu symbolique et les défaillances survenues à cet égard chez l’enfant borderline-en-devenir, il est proposé que le rapport du jeune patient avec l’activité ludique peut notamment refléter un mode de fonctionnement caractérisé par le caractère débordant de l’imagination ou par une forte inhibition qui résulte en l’appauvrissement d’une partie de l’appareil psychique. Ces réflexions sont appuyées par deux illustrations cliniques.

Abstract
Children who show early signs of borderline pathology have often had experiences with primary caregivers that have jeopardized the development of play and of the transitional space, where inner and outer realities meet while preserving their distinct nature. This article proposes a theoretical and clinical reflection to shed light on the implications of precarious conditions of primary care on the child’s ability to play. First, the authors examine the role of the primary caregivers in facilitating the emergence of symbolic play and their failures in this regard with children who show early signs of borderline pathology. The authors then propose that the young patients’ play reflects a mode of functioning characterized by overflowing imagination or strong inhibition, both of which lead to impoverished psychic functioning. Two clinical illustrations support these reflections.

Olivier Didier est doctorant en psychologie clinique de l’enfant, de l’adolescent et des parents de l’Université de Sherbrooke. Il travaille au Centre de la protection de l’enfance et de la jeunesse de Montréal, CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal.
Miguel M. Terradas est psychologue clinicien, professeur au département de psychologie de l’Université de Sherbrooke, chercheur affilié à l’Institut universitaire Jeunes en difficulté – Centre intégré universitaire de santé et des services sociaux (CIUSSS) du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal et au Centre interdisciplinaire de développement international en santé.
