Résumé

Marcel Thiry (1897-1977) est un écrivain belge d’expression française. Dans son deuxième recueil, quoique inventives et variées, les formes poétiques restent traditionnelles, comme préservées par leur belgitude. Si l’on se rappelle un vers de Thiry, c’est assurément « Toi qui pâlis au nom de Vancouver », éponyme du recueil. Or, Vancouver ne figurant là que comme un « nom », il ne garantit aucune expérience du lieu. Relu à la lumière de l’oeuvre de Thiry et de ses réflexions grammairiennes, le recueil de 1924 permet d’interroger les mouvements qui agitent la tradition lyrique et métrique au début du xx^e siècle.

Abstract

Marcel Thiry (1897-1977) was a French-speaking Belgian writer. In his second collection, although inventive and varied, the poetic forms remain traditional, as if preserved by their Belgianness. If one of Thiry’s lines comes to mind, it is certainly « Toi qui pâlis au nom de Vancouver [You Who Grow Pale at the Mention of Vancouver] », the eponym of the collection. However, with Vancouver appearing there only as a « name », it guarantees no actual experience of the place. When revisited in light of Thiry’s work and his grammatical reflections, the 1924 collection allows us to question the movements that stir the lyrical and metric traditions at the beginning of the 20th century.
