Plaisir et subversion chez Réjean Ducharme

Résumé

La fonction ludique du langage s'avère très importante dans l'économie des oeuvres de Réjean Ducharme. Les jeux de mots assurent, en effet, dans l'Avalée des avalés et l'Océantume , une déconstruction systématique des référents socioculturels. La destitution du signifiant-maître détermine le parcours narratif des protagonistes, alors que la défaillance de la métaphore paternelle infère sur le plan figuratif une structure psychotique, elle-même objet de dérision. Entre le ternaire oedipien et le quaternaire de l'inconscient, jouissance interdite et jouissance impossible de la Chose soutiennent une pratique subversive de l'écriture.

Abstract

For Réjean Ducharme, the practice of toying with language contributes to the underlying structure of his work. Within novels such as l'Avalée des avalés (translated as The Swallower Swallowed) and l'Océantume, the recurrent play upon words allows the novelist to deconstruct references to societal and cultural paradigms.The dismissal of the "Name-of-the-Father" in his novels largely determines the pattern of the narrative sequence followed by his protagonists. At a figurative level, the breakdown or failure of this paternal metaphor implies a kind of psychotic structure at work, which Ducharme treats derisively. This attitude is supported by a type of writing which could be deemed seditious, or provocative at the very least. The novelist depicts situations in which "Jouissance" remains out of reach for the fictional characters: it is either forbidden or impossible.
