Georges Perec ou Le système de la déception

Résumé

La tentation de l'échec caractérise à la fois l'entreprise de Perec et les pulsions de ses personnages. On cherche ici à circonscrire les figures de la morbidité qui organisent son imaginaire, afin d'éclairer le trouble généré par cette oeuvre qui joue à la fois de l'ironie (du cynisme?) et d'une vision désastreuse du quotidien. Il s'agit de révéler le germe d'une organisation de la catastrophe comme moteur de l'oeuvre, en mettant en parallèle le sort de certains antihéros perecquiens et la vision qu'en avait lui-même l'auteur. On s'est trop limité à voir en lui un virtuose alors qu'il s'est toujours doublé d'un inquisiteur, d'un philosophe sans illusions, d'un sceptique forcené.

Abstract

The temptation of failure typifies Perec's enterprise of writing and provides the impetus for his characters. This article circumscribes various aspects of morbidity, the organizing networks of the author's imaginary world, so as to illuminate the troubling effect of this work, its underlying irony (or cynicism) and disastrous vision of day-to-day life. By presenting parallels between the lives of Perec's anti-heroes and Perec's own perception of them, the article aims at exposing the embryonic impulse from which the final catastrophe ultimately emerges and which provides the driving force for the work. This should be of interest to those who regard Georges Perec merely as a linguistic virtuoso and fail to recognize the savage inquisitiveness of the disillusioned thinker and his sweeping scepticism.
